Re: leaving windows open, just watch which direction the wind is coming and plan accordingly so you can minimize DUST esp. when haboobs may be coming. Forgot a few times and porch looked like an archaeologist should be sent in.
I read Phoenix has 169 days a year of 90 or above temps. I had thought it was about 90 days. Heat doesn't bother me as much as it does many people. Of course that depends on how hot...100 is hot.
Yep 100 is hot, but like Anita Mae points out, you need to factor in the time of day, humidity factor, shade, etc. I tried to keep a log of how many days I actually felt uncomfortable but it became futile since I'd wake up and say yuck, then the breezes blew and it got more dry, so I changed my entry. Then there was days that were glorious and then they got stickier by dinner time and yuck at midnight. Hard to quantify such variables, so gave up the project with the conclusion that there are few days that are yucky all the way through, unlike day after dreary day of grayness and ice and snow that can collapse a roof and driving with chains and skidding on ice and shoveling and prolonged power outages, and well, you get the picture. And even with sustained heat, the air conditioning everywhere as you move from car to shopping to movies, etc. makes it all bearable and you still can walk outside anytime without fear of slipping on ice and breaking a limb.
Absolutely agree jack.....we will continue to be snow birds as long as feasible, but when we need to consolidate into one home, we will be Sun City fulltimers....I have no desire to fight the winter weather anymore.
I haven't worried about ice for 30 years. I live in Los Angeles which has about the best climate anywhere. This year we had no summer really, has not even hit 90 yet. We usually have about 2-3 weeks of 90-100 but this year (where I'm at, we have nothing) Don't want to retire here though. So I'll take the heat.
And we're glad you'll be joining us as it will great having someone aboard who already shows such an interest in our community and its life!
You're welcome! Went to the last RCSC mtg on Sept. 9 and on the Preservation and Improvement Fund's Long-Range Plan and Budget's Motion #1 there is a listing for 2017 "Remodel Lakeview--yoga, pilates, classrooms, club expansion, steam/sauna" (bold is mine).
yoo-hoo. I hope they mean both and not either or. if anyone gets a vote steam is better all around, IMHO. but you already know I would say that FYI, I wish I could edit the title...I made a typo and it is forever stream instead of steam.
Know what you mean about trying to change a title--don't know of a way to alter them. I got so used to this thread being called Stream Room that when I tried to find it again I put that in the search box knowing it would be pulled up quickly and I wouldn't have to wade through other threads, so it actually came in handy then LOL
