Not from me, ever. Nice try though.

    Not really.

The topic was about the coming months, and we ended up on old news and done deals. This thread has gone in more different directions than I expected and would like to direct it back to the coming months ahead.
My goal is to direct the attention to the board as much is necessary for the community to grow and invite buyers and owners alike to feel invested in their community.
The new website is a sorely needed step in providing a platform for communication and interaction with the RCSC. This has been a long time coming and anticipate great things to come from its release.
I still feel we are not providing a complete solution to keeping our membership informed by relying solely on electronic media for member interaction. I also feel there’s more that can be done to improve member outreach than expecting members to come to the centers in order to pick up a copy of a printed handout. I have copied a reply from RCSCW about their annual costs to produce and provide a community newspaper, which is informative and offers great outreach to the membership. I don’t have a specific number for the cost of editorial needs, but feel the need for print media is extremely critical for the community to stay relevant and appealing. A printed newspaper can be a great resource for those living here as well as perspective owners. Not everything is great to read on a cell phone or tablet. It’s hard to manage multiple topics on a phone and can be difficult to see the photos and other visual elements that a newspaper can provide at a glance or a turn of the page.
I also think the visitors center can be made into a central hub for an every thing Sun City. A location that’s available for information, getting membership cards, and offering extended hours so those wanting to get acquainted with Sun City are met with welcoming people. The visitors center could be so much more for members outreach than its current utilization. But I already covered that information elsewhere earlier.
The next few months have such great opportunities for the community and the members to start to become cohesive once again. The board has the ability to work with the members to make a difference in how we live and grow together. The chasm being created by the lack of meaningful outreach is growing and needs to be addressed now. Here’s hoping for a productive next couple of months for all involved.

    Okay, speaking of websites;

I was on Sun City West's web site yesterday watching their Election Committee Meeting LIVE.

But that's not the only interesting thing! I noticed that the Chair of that committee was NOT a Director!

Hmmm? Kinda makes you think. Why do our committees require not one, but two Directors?

I guess a Member can't be trusted to do the right thing?

Let's hope that changes with the revised bylaws.

    FYI,
I noticed the same thing yesterday when I visited the RCSCW site and watched the video. No directors were involved in conducting the meeting. But this also was a “special session” so I don’t think it necessarily followed standard protocol.
What I found most compelling was the availability of the site and its content. Displays of the written copies of what was being presented was included in the presentation. How amazing is this to see such information being presented and shared, live. The speakers were able to be heard and understood in a clear manner. And the video displayed various different views of the speakers as they spoke to the audience. It was a very good presentation of what can be done with video on electronic media. I suspect that even with the new website being released, there will not be the level of innovation required to match what was presented by RCSCW. Kudos to those folks for staying abreast of technology and using it to the members benefit.

Typically, and in accordance to Robert's Rules, which is the parliamentary authority of SCW, the Chair would be responsible to call a Special Session, but if the members of a committee believe a meeting should be called for any reason, any two members of the committee can call a meeting. (see RONR, 12th Ed. 50:21)

SCW Bylaw: 6.1.3: A Director of the Governing Board shall chair each standing committee and may chair special committees.

So it's kind of interesting that a Director was not Chairing that Special Session of the Election Committee?

Were you able to join in and speak? Probably a member only thing. They allow that at the board meetings. This technology has been around forever. Our board meetings hat what we called "bat phones" even tho to me they looked like the starship enterprise. It had a dedicated line and anyone with the number could call in, connect via computer to see the presentations and be heard over the phone. That technology was available all the way back in 2010 and before. Laptops. a phone, a computer and a screen. All who had presentations just put the thumb drive in and wowie!
