Awesome, baseball season is on hold and governor Ducey threw us all a curve ball. There are days i find myself stunned at the lack of thought on those running the show. I could have swore he had closed things till the 15th and walla, he announces gyms and pools can open tomorrow. Can anyone explain the logic of not giving people advance notice and at the very least setting the 15th or 16th as the day to open them?

And of course the RCSC tied their can to his edicts to justify their actions. Now people are seeing him throw every thing open and assuming the RCSC would/should do the same thing. Apparently the website Nextdoor has a thread or two dedicated to telling people our pools and gyms won't be open Wednesday.

I get it; some people want stuff open. It would seem to me as the death rate in AZ continues to rise, caution would be the order of the day. Obviously given the political climate we are all trapped in, the bigger concern is the orange guy getting re-elected. That is tragically pathetic.

Hopefully the RCSC will roll out the re-opening with care and concern given the aging population. We'll see.

I am . . . ....confused as to how opening up America, as well as Sun City too early will get anyone re-elected. I suppose if it works, fine, but what are the odds of that happening? On the web site I go to AZ has 250 new cases yesterday and 20 new deaths. WTF?

Maybe more of the red bent voters will be unable to vote in November with this new freedom to mingle?

I go to the more local Maricopa County Health Department site for the daily figures on COVID 19. As of yesterday the cases increased by 96 and 8 deaths. Their graph charts are almost unreadable but the summary of stats is good. https://www.maricopa.gov/5460/Coronavirus-Disease-2019

We won't change our habit of masking up and isolating for a long time.

And....how about the 3 casinos in the east valley that are opening up on Friday? Talk about a perfect virus breeding environment! I worry more about the virus circulating in the HVAC systems than the direct contact with an infected person.

Anyone gone out to eat yet? Benson's cartoon on Tuesday has it pretty well pegged in my opinion.... see it here

Now that’s funny. Benson always was pretty irreverent. Curious what is taking the RCSC so long to lay out a plan?

    Carpscience Experiment #281
While at Fry's I decided that a much higher % of the folks NOT wearing masks had tattoos than a random sample would dictate. Feel free to test this theory.

The biggest thing, I'd think, is that the guidance statements from the Feds and State are pretty much changing daily. Couple that with a lot of members with radically different ideas of what's "acceptable" (ranging from everyone needs a mask and 6ft distancing to those who seem to think it's all a hoax) and I'd think they aren't exactly sure how to handle it. I certainly can think of a lot of things I would be worrying about -- like how to social distance in club and class/meeting rooms, manpower to sanitize everything people touch, potential liability lawsuits if someone contracts CV-19 on premise, manpower to enforce whatever CV-19 rules they decide to put in place, how to educate the members as to what those rules are, and, oh, a myriad of other things.

So does the left hand of the Maricopa County Library know something about what the right hand of the RCSC is doing? For sure we cardholders don't. An email from the MC Library today stated that due to the RCSC opening this week that there would no longer be a curbside pickup of library items at the Sun City Branch. You can go there, park, walk up to the library door line and then they would bring your items to you. Fairway items will still be picked up at the Sun City Branch.

RCSC opening this week? News to me. Who's right and who's not telling us what's going on?

Word around is everything will be thrown open tomorrow. It would seem to me the communication is flowing as poorly at the end of this ordeal as it has from the beginning...and virtually all points in between.

The RCSC release came out and it doesn't make much sense to me. Tennis and pickleball are limited to one player on each side of the net. Shocker; virtually no one plays singles in either sport. Be like saying golf is limited to two players per foursome. Lots of verbiage on gyms and pools but unsure how they will work/look. I know this is all new, but for goodness sake, how about turning to the club's officers and have them help with making good choices?

Seriously guys, this is why i get frustrated. We've lost that sense of community; there's the RCSC and the board and then a bunch of card holders paying the freight. Sun City was built and succeeded because we were all part of a community committed to an amazing way of life.

Let me give my head a shake and just ask quite loudly: WHY DID WE GET AN EMAIL YESTERDAY TELLING US THE GREENS WOULD OPEN TODAY AND THIS MORNING GET ONE TELLING US THEY NOW AREN'T? THE EMAIL TODAY CLAIMED THE CLUB PRESIDENTS NEEDED TO APPROVE THE OPENING. REALLY? THEY WANT TO KEEP THEM CLOSED? OR JUST MAYBE YOU OPENED THE GREENS WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT GETTING THE UGLY FENCING TAKEN DOWN IN SHORT ORDER.

Sorry gang but does anyone at the RCSC have a frigging clue as to what they are doing?

So it proves that the May 11th BOD Meeting should have been videoed so we could see the discussions regarding opening the RCSC facilities. The Independent wasn't given any information regarding the opening today so everyone that gets the paper this week is misinformed.

At least two issues have me shaking my head at the moment. First is the rule that requires cardholders to wear a mask for most activities. Will this be enforced? Will there be a penalty of some sort? Will the non mask wearing cardholder be told to leave the activity/facility? Without teeth there are many in Sun City who totally disregard mask wearing.

Second is how they recommend that anyone over 65 should remain sheltering in place as they are vulnerable to COVID 19. Let me see....how many RCSC Cardholders are over 65 and use the facilities? If everyone is in fact wearing a mask it would make the facilities safer for us vulnerable adults.

The RCSC BOD presents it’s phased approach (without Cardholder/Club input), to the Cardholders, then once the Cardholders are informed and ready to return to their activities, they are told they cannot return until the Club President's provide the RCSC with their plan on how their Club can meet the phased requirements AND have their plan approved by the RCSC.

This process will definitely make Cardholders feel respected.

I am confident that the RCSC BOD is doing the best that it can during this difficult situation.

    Enough said.

  18. Well guys, as for the State opening up waaaaay too early, this is what you get when you vote Republican. Go back to work low paid workers, if you refuse your unemployment benefits are cut off. If it you catch the virus on the job and die, Senator Foghorn Leghorn from Kaintuckee wants immunity to wrongful death suits for employers. We want you to die for the good of the economy and President Mango Moron’s re-election.

There was a terrific opinion piece by Jamelle Bouie in the NY Times on May 10 titled A Twisted Conception of Liberty. His point is that the open up crowd are predominantly white and the service workers are predominantly minorities. He backs up this piece with a Harvard Law Review from 1993 by Cheryl Harris titled Whiteness as Property. Try and track down the Times piece as it is quite thought provoking.

Food for thought, over 80% of Covid cases stem from the virus coming from Europe according to study of its genome and the virus mutates every two weeks.

Look for an actual Board meeting on 5/28 at Sundial where we can ask prickly questions and receive verbal diarrhea in return.

Stay safe and follow the CDC guidelines.

Sounds like the good news is, it's not the fencing that's the problem. More like their messaging sucks. I've not been critical of their decision making process; tough calls always. Where it all breaks down for me is in the planning on the reopen and their inability to communicate. We used to teach effective communication, their grade, D at the very best. I drove around several of the venues, impossible to tell if they were open or closed..other than the fencing still around the Bell lawn bowling green. By the way, it still looks like shit.
