Today, December 7, 2014, is National Cotton Candy Day.

Cotton candy is a form of spun sugar.

The confection is almost 100 percent sugar
with dashes of flavoring and food coloring.

Cotton candy was first recorded in Europe in the 18th century.

Machine-spun cotton candy was invented in 1897 and first
introduced at the 1904 World's Fair.

A dentist from New Orleans, Louisiana, invented a similar
    cotton candy machine in 1921

In the 1970s an automatic cotton candy machine was created.
This made it easier to produce and sell.
