Hello George - there is a lot of pretty detailed Sun City history stuff - mostly by Bill, to be found here. Feel invited to jump in on any of the many threads to be found and offer an opinion.
Thank you very much Bill and Carp. I am intrigued by the rich history of Sun City, and pleased to find much pride in the community. I have read and enjoyed the 25th anniversary “Jubilee” book of Sun City, and have heard that there is also a 50th anniversary book. Does anyone have more information about it?
Well no, not about that book, but there is also a "Churches of Sun City" book floating around and I am thinking of doing a tour of the buildings and doing a spread (thread?) about them. Perhaps a picture of each - there is some (opinion) interesting architecture involved, and perhaps a shot of their stained glass, where it can be found.
Couple of quick responses here. First to George, kudos for reading Jubilee. When i ran for the RCSC board in 2012, i produced a 4 page newspaper as a campaign piece. Oddly there were only 3 candidates for 3 spots, but i wanted to layout my objectives as a board member. One of the things i said was both RCSC management and anyone on or running for the board should have to read Jubilee. Knowing/understanding our history will only enhance your enjoyment of just how special the community is. The second part is sad in part. Our 50th anniversary was in 2010 and the timing sucked. The economy was in the shits and the initial plan was to produce a beautiful coffee table pictorial of Sun City past and present. It would have been expensive to produce and sell and there wasn't a single company willing to back us financially. We spent all of 2010 holding monthly events, all on a shoestring budget. The good news was an out of town publisher stepped up and did a good sized 50th anniversary magazine. They sold the ads in it and gave the museum thousands of copies to distribute. I have a few copies left and if you want one, let me know and we can work out where to meet. As an aside, you should make an appointment to see the Museum, you will be blown away. Finally; Carp, what a great idea. The Church book you are talking about was produced by Emile Fisher. He was on the Museum board and hand sketched in pencil or chalk every one of the churches in the book. It is quite impressive. We have one on display at the Museum and a handful of copies there as well. It would be totally cool to replicate it in photo form and show them side-by-side. Let me know if you are interested and we can work out the details.
Thank you for your responses. Bill, I appreciate your advice to take the museum tour. Do I understand correctly that you conduct some of the tours? I would love to bring my wife and her parents sometime soon (4 of us). Perhaps we could schedule when you are leading the tour? We are early risers. Yes, I would also take you up on your offer to purchase the 50th Jubilee magazine (or 2) from you. You are very kind. Please let me know when you may be available.
Carptrash, the churches of Sun City are a topic of great importance, especially during this Easter. Hallelujah!!
Yes I am interested and will start seriously checking out where to shoot from and what time of day works best for each building.
Hey George, if you call this number (623) 974-2568 Linda will answer. Tell her you would like to schedule a tour with me as your guide/docent. Mention i told you to call and to ask for me.
Hello, my name is Ron Pasik. I am passionate about politics, softball, pickleball, golf, chess, and driving around Sun City in my golf cart. I would like to see changes on the RSCS board like listening to the Home owners of Sun City. I have temporarily retired from a 36 year aerospace career from Boeing working in Kansas, Washington, and Oregon due to a layoff in 2020. I play in the Senior Softball Club completing my first season. I am a constitutional conservative and am gravely concerned about the direction of our country and the profound impact it will have on our life. I am studying to become an insurance agent. I have not ruled out a return to aerospace engineering.
Hello Ron: Welcome to this site and although I did not vote for Biden (if you want to know how I voted ask the constitutional conservatives at Cyber Ninja) your avitar suggests that we will never be close. But politics is an allowed subject here, so feel free to (1) start a political conversation or (2) sell me insurance.
Hello, new member. I also could not get past the CAPTCHA but now did it! I have been following the posts about the RCSC and really appreciated the information and energy shared. My parents moved here from Minnesota in 1975 and I moved to Arizona in 1976. I live in their home now (they are both gone) and have since 2003. I have seen a lot of changes in those years, and look forward to some good and positive change, thanks to so many of the folks on these pages, and especially to Bill Pearson. I am planning to FINALLY become a member of the museum, too. Thanks for this forum!
Hey Nia, welcome. Our future and creating a better Sun City is truly on the horizon. For the first time in a very long time, members are paying attention. Tomorrow's board meeting will truly begin the "age of enlightenment." We'll truly see if they listened to us at the membership meeting or are just spewing platitudes while clinging to all the vestiges of power they have awarded themselves. We'll see.
Hi Nia! Glad you finally got through the hiccups to join us here! As a member of Sun City Advocates, we already know that your heart and head are in the right place. Who wouldn't want Sun City to be all the best it can be?!
