Pickleball, Lake View, Noise

If you're wondering what it will sound like when they convert the tennis courts at Lake View to Pickleball courts, just watch the latest edition of Sun City in Focus.

It starts around the 8 minute mark when they interview Race Walker, Shea Darian.

You be the judge whether or not it conflicts with the tranquility of the lake!

Tom, Thanks for pointing the pickle ball noise out in the video. I watched the video but wasn't surprised since I often walk on Marinette's outdoor track. In fact I was there this afternoon. Not so bad today since only the indoor courts were being used.

At one of the Exchanges one gentleman stated that Members at Lakeview hear the train noise, jets from Luke Air Force Base, as well as ambulance sirens on their way to the ER. While that is true, those noises aren't constant. The clatter from pickleball courts may be heard the entire time that Lakeview is open.

I can't recall when the final figures for the Lakeview Pickleball courts conversion are to be available. It seems like a long wait for those as well as Mountain View.

It will be noisy no matter where they build it. It's been one of the issues communities have been battling since pickleball became a thing. Ideally courts are as far away from local residents as possible but the reality is finding locations like that in Sun City is a challenge.

This is true, but the lake and Meeker Mountain is not a location I would have recommended.

So much for the tranquility of the area and the gentle sounds of the running waterfalls!

I think the decision to transform the tennis courts was a knee jerk reaction to appease the pickleballers and get the complainers off the backs of the board.

    Just my opinion.

    Proposed PIF Projects List
2022 projects thru 2035 included Lakeview. RCSC has promised funding for pickleball courts at Lakeview, unknown cost, that may or may not be included in the Lakeview Center replacement in 11- 12 years from now?? Is this sound long range planning?
    2031 Lakeview New Admin. Building $ 2.2m
    2032 Lakeview New Admin. Building $ 2.2m
    2034 Lakeview Center Replacement $10.5 m
    2035 Lakeview Center Replacement $10.5 m

I agree with that. Funny how they told us they IMMEDIATELY started working on a solution for new pickleball courts after they fired Karen - over 1-1/2 years ago - and we still haven't heard how much this will cost or where the money's coming from. Time for new Board to talk openly about this.

lol - I know that was rhetorical. How many times can someone pull the same wool over the same eyes? Golf Maint Bldg original placeholder 0.9 million, first budget pass 1.7, final cost just under 4.0. Mountain View prob 40 million before its done. Which means Admin Bldg will prob be 12-15 million, and Lakeview prob 60-80 million. No problem - raise PIF fee to 15K. Don't worry - it only affects new buyers! Right? Right!

Let's be honest here; the administrative building was the "genius" of one board member/president that insisted it appear on the PIF plan. Craziness.

It feels like throwing darts - someone (or a group) has an idea/quasi plan. Board has some discussion, GM grumbles, members express opinions, dart Board comes out, and a halfa##ed plan starts to evolve, a number gets picked and a placeholder is put on the PIF schedule. Isn't this how the new dog training facility evolved in just the last few months?

The process for new pickelball courts at Lakeview certainly hasn't been done in daylight.

We can and must do better. Both PIF and annual capital projects! MV is going to take the majority of PIF dollars for the foreseeable future. Buyers aren't going to accept exorbitant PIF fees in the future to sustain us.

I know it's a broken record, but it's time to think, plan and spend strategically with our fees. This requires a team effort between the Board, management, LRPC and Budget/Finance. It's hard work, but the left hand and the right hand MUST work in concert. The dysfunction that exists is costing us valuable resources...human and financial.

There is an article in today's Independent (page 4) regarding the Lakes Golf Course maintenance building. The article says that $3.65M has been spent so far but they still need to do more at the site. Currently Golf Operations personnel are meeting with the Building and Maintenance officials to determine the scope, preliminary pricing and scheduling of landscaping. It will be interesting to see the costs and timeline for this and how close it gets us to the $4M approval by the previous Board. Is the "Building and Maintenance officials" the same as the RCSC Properties Committee? The latest minutes of that committee was for their November 29th meeting and there was no mention of this landscaping project. I couldn't see on the RCSC website that they have another committee meeting scheduled. Keep tuned for more information in the GM's monthly report for upcoming Board meetings.

Most recent RCSC published golf information presented to the membership in 2023.
Not much there. Board and Members need and expect more. Project timelines, if they even have and use them, should be available at least online. Accountability!!

Running off topic - but to answer Janet's question: Properties Committee is only concerned with the physical state of current facilities such as maintenance or safety issues. It has nothing to do with construction nor future projects.

Thanks, jeb, I wondered if that was the case when I read the Committee's minutes. This begs the question, is there any Board Committee that is involved with construction or future capital projects? How else would RCSC Members have input except to speak at the Exchange or a Board meeting, but only if it is an agenda item? I agree with Director Totten, telling us that where we currently are on a project is not a timeline. A timeline has a completion date. The only timeline I am familiar with is the one for the Viewpoint Lake project. I think Director Totten was right on when she also pointed out that a PIF Budget is not a Long Range Plan.
