Today, October 22, 2013, is National Nut Day.

A nut is a fruit composed of a hard shell and a seed, where the hard-shelled fruit does not open to release the seed. Culinary usage of the term is less restrictive, and some nuts as defined in food preparation, like almonds, pecans, pistachios, walnuts, and Brazil nuts, are not nuts in a botanical sense. Common usage of the term often refers to any hard-walled, edible kernel as a nut.

I like cashews and candied walnuts. See recipe below.
    What is your favorite nut?

    EASY Candied Walnuts

Be careful NOT TO BURN sugar or the nuts!

    1 cup halved walnuts
    ½ cup granulated sugar

Place walnuts and sugar in a skillet.
Cook, shaking pan frequently, until sugar melts and
starts caramelizing. Make sure to coat walnuts well.
Remove from heat and cool down.
