Did I read this correctly this morning in the Independent online? All Posse new recruits will undergo polygraph screening as a precursor to training?

Is this something new or was this always a part of the Posse volunteer process. Thank you.

Seven years ago I did not have to take the test.

This testing is part of several new recruiting/training requirements that are part of the ongoing process involved in the federal lawsuit effecting the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

Does this apply also to existing Posse members or just the new recruits? Thank you.

That's an interesting question E; seems you have a penchant for them. I suspect this is all due the 73 year old Sheriff's POSSE member that shot the suspect with his pistol when he thought it was his stun gun. There were more questions than answers from that debacle as this guy clearly had ties to the Sheriff that allowed him access due to his financial contributions to the force.

What's even more odd, what the heck happened to that case...it kind of fell off the radar screen.

Love to hear the answer to E's question PI. I suspect it will be just the newbies, but does that make any sense?

We best make sure that people know this wasn't an incident in the Sun City Posse.

The polygraph testing will be interesting as "to the best of my memory" has a whole different meaning in Sun City. There won't be many simple yes or no answers.

Good point aggie. Where was that it happened? Nebraska, Kansas or somewhere like that eh?

It was Tulsa OK. Seems he was charged with 2nd Degree Manslaughter and will have to work its way through the courts.

Just the new recruits will be subject to the polygraph tests (at least for the time being)

Weather this makes any sense, you have to remember this mandate comes from the federal government.

As a point of information, no member of the Sheriff's Posse of Sun City currently carries a firearm or Taser while on duty.

Thanks PI; that actually makes sense to me given my prior life. It is curious to note on the firearm and Taser, I know some of the guys carried while on duty. That too must have been fallout from the shooting in Tulsa.

I have not paid close attention to that incident in Oklahoma.

Thank you for your response. I have the utmost respect and admiration for our Posse.

The main reason no posse member carries a weapon here in Sun City is that there is nothing we do here would require the use of a weapon. We do the good stuff that real deputies don't have time to do. (vacation watch, checking the welfare of residents, giving people a ride home from Boswell Hospital, etc:) Past members who have taken the training to carry a weapon on duty soon find out that they need to leave our posse and join one of the other 50 or so posses in the county who actually ride with the deputies and assist with enforcement functions. We don't do any of that.

I had no idea. I too thought a few Posse members with prior law enforcement may carry a weapon. Thank you for pointing that out.
