Thanks for posting this link E. There's been rumors about them buying the La Rhonde Center for months now. Their partners (as well as themselves) are already players in the Sun City area so this just makes perfect sense. In fact, all kinds of long term planners are telling us the medical profession will be booming for years to come. And what better place to position themselves than in a senior community with 43,000 potential clients.

The interesting, and probably unknown fact is the La Rhonde Center has been for sale for the past two years. When there was discussions about rebuilding the Lakeview Rec Center, we (the RCSC) flirted with the idea of renting space there for the corporate offices. That led them to offer to sell it to us. While we never seriously engaged them, it certainly conjured up the idea we create a real estate division to prepare for the future.

I've written before how I believe the land in Sun City will only continue to increase in value. There are 16 shopping centers within our walls, most assuredly too many given the shift to online buying and big box store popularity. If we understand we are a landlocked community, we at some point will come to understand our future growth will become vertical rather than horizontal.

It will be interesting to see how Barnet Delaney handles the development of that property. There are massive empty spaces on both sides of Del Webb Blvd and there are also renters spread across both sides as well. Consolidating one side for retail and plowing under and starting anew would be my tact, but time will tell how they forge forward.
