HH, I am not addressing this to anyone. I have seen a few references to Taylor Swift and other celebrities on TOSC blogs. My post is an opinion from Alice Cooper, an AZ native, I believe. I do not worship any celebrity, although I can appreciate their talents and work, so I do not let them influence my political views. They have their rights to their opinions as do the writers on this blog, just like I do.
Sorry. I have never heard a taylor swift song and have not set foot in a movie theater since the 90's. We had a beautiful old concert hall turned into a theater in St. Charles. It was lovely to go there. We got all the 2nd rounds. miss living in a small town, but I hear it's not so small anymore.
Depends on State statute. Now, there are a bunch of States that give embryos rights, which is really stupid, but religious nutcases hate abortion so much they do things like this. Now, a woman a few ago turned this idiocy on the State of Arizona when she was driving in the HOA lane by herself during restricted hours. A State trooper pulled her over and issued her a citation for the lane violation even though she advised the trooper of her pregnancy. She went to court and cited the Arizona Personhood statute as a defense. The case was dismissed on this basis even though the State said it didn’t apply in this manner. You can’t have it both ways. I wanted to reply to your question regarding Article 1, §8 in the Constitution and abortion not being specifically mentioned. You are correct, it isn’t but then neither is the draft. I will address the draft first as it is the easiest. There are two sections of the Constitution that would apply, first would be Article 1, §8, clause 19 which is referred to as either the necessary and proper clause or the “elastic clause.” This is usually cited concerning Presidential power, but could be cited circumspectly for the draft. The second citation which would be more direct is located in the Preamble, that section normally ignored after We the People. One of the phrases refers to “the National Defense.” This was normally cited in challenges to the draft for WWI and Viet Nam. As for abortion, I again refer to the Preamble as after the National Defense is the phrase “for the General Welfare.” I applied this more to actions during the pandemic for lockdowns and vaccinations. Obviously Covid was highly contagious and deadly which would call for measures like this. Although a First Grader at the time I remember the long line in school for polio shots, another highly contagious disease. The policy was highly effective and through high school I had in some classes students who suffered the effects of polio before the serum was available. Unfortunately the shot for the Big 3 childhood diseases did not exist so I spent a Christmas in a dark room with measles and my younger brother and I traded chicken pox and mumps during one summer vacation from school. Bummer. But I digress, again while abortion is not specifically named, as a medical procedure it is covered by the First Amendment under Freedom of Association clause (doctor-patient relationship), the Fourth Amendment under Right to Privacy and the Fourteenth Amendment under Equal Protection clause. Finally I would like to quote a Supreme Court case Shapiro v. Thompson (1969) which the Court ruled that we have the right of “free and unrestricted travel” which will probably appear in the Texas governor’s ability to secure copies of a woman’s medical records from seeking an abortion out of State. There are also HIPPA implications as well as freedom from unreasonable search and seizure. Hope this answers your question.
Cue Small Town by John Cougar Mellencamp Saw Richie Havens and Chuck Berry give impromptu concerts in a park when at Southern. Saw Santana and the Dead at the old Chicago Stadium. Saw The Police with about 40 other people at the Quiet Knight next to the El at the Belmont stop. Saw Midnight Oil, Cheap Trick at the Rivera and numerous bands unknown at the Aragon when I lived down the street on Lawrence. Loved living in Uptown and Wrigleyville (Cubs ruined the ‘hood. Lee Elia was right, it has become a playground for the …….)
Well you know what they say, "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." That fall might be election day.
Not sure what all this has to do with a small movie theater, but are you going to respond to the scenario i asked you about the puppies?
It's interesting that you post against celeb endorsements by quoting another celeb. Who was born in Detroit, so not really an AZ native.
Well, well, well Turns out those bomb threats in Springfield, OH were originating overseas https://x.com/DC_Draino/status/1835779116819468317
Yup...you understand that part exactly, and that's exactly what the ruling on Roe v Wade did. It didn't eliminate abortions, it simply moved that decision up to the people of the individual States. Alexander Hamilton probably said it best when he suggested that the "leading objects of the federal government...are to maintain domestic peace, and provide for the common defense". "Domestic peace" equaled "general welfare." Nothing to do with abortion It's my opinion that, once again, you are creating and exaggerating broad definitions that only fits and will justify your own way of thinking. I will say, that many of the decisions and laws now in affect were established by a Supreme Court who, at the time, had its own majority of political leanings whether they be Conservative or Liberal. The Framers or Ratifying Conventions did not anticipate such things and activities that have taken place under things like the "General Welfare Clause," the "Necessary and Proper Clause," the "Commerce Clause," or even the "Post Roads Clause" for that matter that justified their federal building projects. It seems that ambitions of politicians determined to bring pork back home to their constituents and a twisted excuse to a sympathetic Supreme Court let these rulings slip through which has also allowed the many federal departments and agencies to be deemed legal.
The difference is Alice Cooper is giving his opinion on celebrities not knowing any more about politics than the average citizen, not endorsing anyone. Apples. Oranges.
Apples? Oranges? Really Janet? Let's recap Taylor's post: Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country. Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth. I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades. I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story. With love and hope, Taylor Swift Childless Cat Lady We can debate how much of her decision was based on the fake AI post trump tried to run on truth (don't you just love the name of a site filled with lies?) social, or if the debate soured her on trump or whether vance's personal attacks on "single cat ladies" influenced her, but it matters not. Because the often overlooked position was this: "I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make." Pretty simple and very clear. For my money, i suspect she is far more interested in voting for joy over hate.

Before you let Taylor Swift guide your vote, remember—90% of her songs are about choosing the wrong person!
Don't follow her music, i'm more impressed by the thoughtful response she posted on line, including this comment: "I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. Once again, the content of her message is so much more compelling than worthless links on X.

They are so worthless they are posted by news media/journalists, Joe Biden. Jill Biden (Trump has his own Social Media site) both republican and democrat members of congress and is owned by the richest man in the world. But hey, you are the SC historian known by who??
