I want to post my thoughts on plan M ● first, she did not have "zones" for various activities. She had pickleball at both ends of the property. The zone thing is misinformation. ●the two pickleball courts on the far south end were just an after thought. They are also very close to the Sun City Country Clubs 1st tee. I'm not so sure thats a good idea. ●the sports pool was not/ is not something requested or required by water volleyball or aqua fittness. There is no data supporting this added expense of maintaining another pool. ●the 8 shaded pickleball courts have a metal roof that will not support AC units in the future. To make this climate controlled it would need to be rebuilt from scratch. We would end up doing it twice, instead of doing it right the first time. ●there is no clear info on where You check-in or where staff would work out of. Will they still be attached to the theater? ● $1.297m to "refinish" the pool area? Unclean what that is all about. ● $13.1M to the theater. There is so much I could say about this. Let me just state that I am strongly opposed to applying $13.1M worth of lipstick to the auditorium.
I think this plan may have been right 10 or 15 years ago, but not today. We need to think of 2024 and beyond .
Thanks Paul! Good info to consider. I thought pb was not interested in the two stand alone courts? A few MV people want the pool area left as is, but with updates. I also believe the indoor pb facility needs to be built now. I thought the $13.1 million for theater was cheap. The nice thing about Plan M is that nothing about it is set in stone. There is still much work to be refined on the plan. With this plan I believe they should enclose 8 pb courts and leave 9 outside. These numbers are also open to refine. Again if more parking is needed move the lawn bowling to a different location. Seems simple if people would compromise a bit more.
Tom's right, no one was touting the plan M design as being completed in any way shape or form. In fact, the concept and content was the result of the architect drawing it out of the group collectively. My take has always been for the SAC to compile the information, make their recommendation(s) and then let the board complete the plan design to fit the budget and space available. And lest anyone think anything at Mountain View is a done deal once designed by the board, consider this: If the slate of "golfing candidates" are elected, everything coming from the PIF potentially could go away. We know at least one of the golf associations has told their members to vote for the slate so they can take control of the board in 2024.
I thought Marlene stressed several times that the covered PB structure concept at MV was designed for future enclosure. That's why the cost estimate was higher than expected. It would not require a "do over" in the future if an upgrade was desired.
It was my understanding that it would not support the weight necessary for AC units. Maybe I misheard her.
Yes she said designed for future enclosure, but I believe if the enclosure is not done now, it will never get done. Enclosing now provides some decrease in pb noise, and some decrease in number of courts needed, as it provides opportunity for all year, all day play. Possibly by enclosing 8 courts, 9 outdoor courts would not be needed. To help pay for indoor facility, decrease amount of money for pool area, the PAC, and fitness area. If more parking is needed move lawn bowling to another location. All this is open to discussion and “compromise” with plan M.
I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page. I think the devil will be in the final details in the end. A decision needs to be made by the Board soon and then move on. The $$ amount is set. Following input from the Town Halls, somebody needs to have a "come to Jesus" moment with everyone involved about the facts one more time. There is a finite space available and dollar amount. It's time for EVERY group to figure out that every single thing they WANT may not be possible. We aren't living in a perfect world with unlimited resource, space and Maricop County has rules. Unless there are some very large untapped resources to make every dream come true, we need to figure out that it's time to make the very best decisions we can for MV, keeping in mind its future and all of RCSC. It's one part of a large community that we ALL share.
Why are concessions for pickleball taking priority over a long promised Performance Arts Center and other badly needed maintenance needs? An indoor pickleball facility for 1000 members, while we have current NEEDS, does not merit financial support from our whole community at this time. Pickleball, “Take a number, get back in line, wait your turn.”
One idea, talk to realtors. Are their clients choosing other communities because of our lack of pickleball courts? I firmly believe people choose Sun City first because of it's affordability not because of the amenities. The amenities are a bonus and they will live with what we've got. If that is the case then the PAC needs attention first.
This is where we need to decide if we are using emotions for our choices or data and trends. Fitness and pickleball are high utilization and trending up. The auditorium numbers are trending down. The last performance had attendance numbers below the covid seating numbers.
I am for PAC at MV. And PAC deserves first consideration. The popularity of pb also warrants strong consideration. I believe they can coexist at MV. Now lawn bowling may need to be eliminated or moved to another rec center. Build another lb court at Bell. PIF is at $31 million. Plan M as it exists is about $25 million. Ask for more of this money for indoor pb facility. Let’s get ir done!
Would love to see 5 year plan I keep hearing about! Where is it? Oh yea there is an upcoming motion for a five year plan.
Minutes from last meeting and Agenda should be out tomorrow (I hope). I expect we will be discussing the next steps for the priorities we established at our last meeting.
The reason numbers for the auditorium was down is because the place is a shithole, the neighborhood is not safe, and nobody cares to go south of Grand. Spend a million dollars and demo Mountain View make green space out of it. Everybody interested in this area could care less about anything but pickleball. They should be required to buy a pass regardless if they're here year round or not for $2000 a year. It should be a rule that anyone who wants to obtain a member card must volunteer for 12 months. This should be a rule if you want to run for the board. Anyone running for the board must be here no less than 5 years. We have board members now that haven't been here for over a year making decisions on who what and why. How can this happen.
Tom the time you spend on here every day you could be picking up trash and animal waste in the medians. The Washington cliques here are pathetic. It's all about me me me and the hell with everyone else
