Proxy and quorum?

So those who turned in proxies 'may' receive notification by Friday as to how many of their proxies were validated. Unfortunately, since we - the members - have no way to know who turned in what, we will not know if we need to go ring doorbells and "plead" with homowners to attend the Annual Membership meeting on Dec. 13th.

We have no data base. We have no master email list. We have no telephone tree. We have no website that represents us.

So - I'll start. I turned in 22. (Wish it was more but I was busy writing!!)

How many did you? How many have you heard of? Maybe we can get some sort of total on here. Spread the word to put your totals here so we can see our progress. I don't see how it can hurt us now even if "they" see it. Maybe, just maybe, we'll have a good number! Thinking positively!!!

I turned in 5 - I wish it was more. I spent so much time educating people - 6 more people promised to attend the meeting on the 13th.

I believe I heard clearly that all proxies will be counted toward quorum (no keeping them in your pocket). That's the important piece a lot of you were worried about.

I have to agree that giving out a number ahead of time is misleading - there are too many variables. For instance, I assume if a proxy holder isn't in attendance - all their proxies become void at the meeting. Maybe just ringing doorbells or putting notes in mailboxes (for the record I didn't just say that because I think its against postal code) and just ask people to attend if they haven't given away their vote.

And I think (sorry, can't remember her name) clear argument that IV, Section 4 contains wording "Such matters, being solely within the powers delegated to the Board..." do not apply to Bylaw changes as Bylaw changes are not solely power of Board. !

I just watched and listened to today's Board meeting. If I heard Sue Wilson correctly, she said that the agenda items that have been brought from the members to be placed on the agenda for the Annual Membership meeting will be "referred to the Board for study." If they return and say "yes," your agenda item will go forward, it will be voted on at the next MEMBERSHIP meeting; not Board meeting, but Membership meeting. So in this case does membership meeting mean a regular Board meeting OR does it mean the Annual Membership meeting that no one knows when it is but won't be until next year? If it's the latter, what if there is no quorum? What happens to our agenda items then? They just die?

Yes -- clear as mud and aimed to further discourage any membership participation in our own Sun City.

    There is a Plan B
Special Membership meetings can be called.
Verified proxies are valid for 90 days.

If course, there are many “special” rules for members to follow to ask for a Special Member meeting.
Doesn’t take much for the board to call one though…

    SECTION 2: SPECIAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS
Special meetings of the Members may be called by the Board of Directors, President of the Corporation or by petition of the Members having at least one-tenth (1/10) of the votes entitled to be cast according to the Corporation’s records as of the preceding July 1. The reason for the meeting shall be stated in such call and petition. After receiving the petition and validating the signatures thereon, the President shall set a date for such meeting, which shall be held within sixty (60) days after validation of the signatures is completed.

With respect to a special meeting called by petition of the Members for the purpose of amending the Articles or Bylaws, the Board, after validation of the petition, shall set a special meeting. A written notice shall be posted in RCSC Facilities and/or published in the RCSC newsletter (SunViews) and/or on the RCSC website (www.suncityaz.org) not less than ten (10) days, nor more than sixty (60) days before the date of the meeting.

With respect to a special meeting of the Members called by the Board of Directors or the President of the Corporation, a written notice shall be posted in RCSC facilities and/or published in the RCSC newsletter (SunViews) and/or on the RCSC website (www.suncityaz.org) not less than ten (10) days, nor more than sixty (60) days before the date of the meeting. Notice shall include information concerning the purpose for the special meeting.

Just received my proxy vote verification email.

It required me to email back a receipt. Hmmm

I got my proxy count by email from Lehrer, well actually it was from the corporate office. I knew after the fact that at least 5 would not be validated. I am really pleased with only 7 not being validated. Maybe everyone can post on here their count and we can figure out what the total amount is I have a request into Lehrer for the total amount, not sure she will give it to me. I think if we post results and we can figure where we stand maybe it will encourage more people to come to the meeting. We could have the greatest attendance in Sun City history and meet that quorum!!!

I got mine, too. I will also ask for a total when I reply back.

I know the present Board reads this.....but they will already know how close we are because their who they are (!), so the only worry about posting on here is that too many people will read it and think that they don't have to come. We don't want that.

It now appears they are working hard to eliminate proxies on the basis of mistakes made by those filling them out. I think it is safe to say they would prefer not to have a membership meeting. It also sounds like more proxies were turned in than they expected so the goal appears to try and minimize as many of them as they can. We'll see what happens come Monday.

Of course a thorough verification process conducted by THE RCSC…is in the best interest of the members, NOT.

The latest in Your Sun City AZ week: " UPDATE - Registration will begin at 8am; must present RCSC Member Card with photo and yellow stripe. NOTE: Golf cards and key fobs will not be accepted." Now they have added golf cards the rec # is the same as your regular rec card. What is the since of that except to eliminate more people?

Do golf cards have a photo ID on them? If not, that's probably the reason they aren't accepted. Also, is it possible a golf card holder may not be a Member?

Yes they look exactly like the rec card except on the yellow line above it has the expiration date of the golf card and it does have a photo. I do believe that a privilege card holder can get a golf card, but I am sure if they put the number in the computer that it will say they are not a voting member. It appears to me that they are adding that 1 day before the meeting just to eliminate all the people they can. Is this board working for us? It seems they should be helping us get this quorum not making it more difficult as the days go by.

Sorry Carol, but they have no interest in having this meeting and reaching a quorum. They know the shitstorm it will cause if our motions are read and sent to the dungeon of death where the board will simply say, nope, not interested. It's why the motions we made were all steeped in logic and nothing outlandish. Who could say no to common sense solutions?

The minute i heard they tossed 60 proxy votes because the person collecting them had put the wrong date of the meeting on it, you had to know what their goal was/is. There's more but i need to do some further digging.

Why would the date even matter if the proxies are good for 90 days? I guess it could if the date is after the actual meeting.
