That's the rumor, but you FYI, maybe it's just a rumor. Or, maybe it's spot on and the board member was also dismissed and we just missed it. We had a former board member who used to post on this site, he quit because of the way the board was allowed to act; felt there should be some decorum and decency. If he is reading this, it would be great if he would speak up. Then there's the former board member you corrected in the Independent today, he quit the board with all kinds of claims. In fact if you did a search on this site you could see his allegations.

Here's the problem. We all love Sun City, we VOLUNTEER to serve on the board because we do love Sun City. We want it to be successful, we want it to be better than when we found it. I suspect every board member feels that way. To this day i feel a pang of guilt for writing stuff about what went on. Not because it isn't true, but when you tell people about it, it diminishes the community.

Then i look at what they did to Barbara and to Karen and i ask myself, do they really care? Because if they did, they most certainly wouldn't treat a fellow board member that way. And what is so damned disgusting is they do it on a false premise that those speaking out and doing their DUTY as a board member are not showing proper allegiance to the RCSC. What a happy pile of horseshit. If someone is doing something wrong as a board member or as a member of management you have an obligation to call them out. I used to teach situational ethics to employer and union trustees and we told them simply voting no on an issue that was ethically wrong did not protect them from being held accountable. Tragically, no one is held accountable here except those who try and do their job right.

This board has functioned so far outside the norm of how a board is supposed to act it is almost laughable; except there is nothing funny about it.

OMG, THAT'S DISGUSTING. WHY IS THIS JERK STILL A DIRECTOR?

You go Bill, tell it like it is and let these sad people we call directors explain themselves.

There-in is the problem P_I, they figure they don't have to explain anything to the peons.

    Just a silly thought.
Why don't we all just say that we are no longer going to pay our annual fees but will start out own Board.
Of course, BP would be the president!!!!

Thanks Peg, not interested. I would never tell people not to pay their rec fees. I would much rather they show up at the board meetings and let their voices be heard. This community was built by the people living here and run by the people living here. Like my signature says at the bottom; Community before Corporation.

I hate being wrong but when i am i admit it. I told FYI we should be at 10,000 reads by Monday night and i completely missed it. We're only going to be 9,900 something. Bummer.

I wish we could say the same about the Board!

We use to say in the engineering field, "The only thing worse than a bad engineer is an engineer who doesn't know he's bad!" I think we can say the same about the board and their understanding of their own rules and obligations to the Members?

I think if there are changes, I hope they check the financials dating back to the Wellman years and beyond. A complete audit from an outside company should be done immediately,

9900+ that's amazing! It's only going to gain more & more reads before the 1st board meeting & even more before the Annual meeting. :)

Too many years ago i learned i was the one who was the one responsible for my actions and the outcomes. Critical self-examinations are essential for growth and the opportunity to change. If you can't look in the mirror and admit you are/were wrong, you stagnate and make the same stupid mistakes over and over again.

They escaped the shitstorm when Barbara was fired because she elected to move to Florida. There's way more to her story, but until or unless she decides to tell it, not my job. When we talked she said she was comfortable sharing the fact they fired her and why. Imagine, looking at audited statements and auditors notes, seeing some things that were questionable and then being fired for questioning them. Hey dummies, she was doing her job.

Then along comes Karen who understands how boards should work. There isn't this pact that when you are sworn in that you suddenly become a robot mindlessly following the pack. It doesn't work that way, it was never constructed to be a bunch of clones marching in lock step. There's a reason there are 9 board members and that's so they get divergent ideas, raise questions, challenge both management and one another when something is amiss.

The genius of our documents was to insure a voice in the community by the membership/owners. The gm elected to take it away and the board went along with it. They then became insulated/protected from recall and never had an obligation to hear what those in the crowd were saying. Think not? How many times have you seen people step to the mic, make a point and they simply say, "thanks for your comment." And then move on to their business.

In a perfect world, with perfect human beings that would work out just fine. Sadly, this isn't a perfect world, we are all far from perfect. Hence the need to look in the mirror and admit sometimes we just blew it. My hope would be the RCSC would have the proverbial epiphany start the meeting out on Sept 13 by seating Karen in her rightful place on the board and move on. Based on the presidents comments yesterday in the Independent, probably won't be the case.

Damn, missed the call for 10k by less than 12 hours...but i was wrong...yet 10,000 plus is a kick ass number. Way bigger than anything we've ever seen before on this site.

I forgive you! What's 12 hours and 100 views among friends?

I just hope your predictions on the attendance of the September board meeting are just as accurate, and I believe they will be!

I hear rumblings of things happening within the community behind the scenes by some Members and I think the September meeting will exceed our expectations.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn or see that the board invited somebody from the posse or sheriffs department to attend just in case things get out of hand?

I know several of us have already written this but it is important to say it here: Everyone needs to stay calm and on point. I know people are really angry about the boards actions. They were simply out of line and their actions uncalled for. We need to take the anger and frustration and turn it into a positive energy to try and right this community. Too many board members bought the crap that members shouldn't have a voice and the board should be the only ones that matter...and that is simply wrong. It was never built that way, we should never have ended up there.

They have all the cards until people show up in large numbers and they wake up to the fact we do matter. Firing members for having an opinion is crazy.

I have been following this FOREVER.
Still. I have no clue what it is all about.
A simple explanation would be appreciated.
    Thank You.

Pegmih, if you have been reading about what has been written here and you don't know what this is about, you must not have a clue about anything. It's right here in black and white. Sorry you don't get it.

The simple answer is the board terminated director McAdam because she wasn't going along with most of what the rest of the board wanted.

She was terminated for voicing an opinion and taking a position supporting the Membership which is her job! And they did it in a manner that was in violation of the RCSC's own Bylaws and the failure to afford her proper due process.

To this day Director McAdam, who couldn't even attend her own dismissal meeting because they called it with practically no notice, and she was out of town, has no idea what she's being accused of doing. Simply put...she was railroaded and this is the second director who suffered the wrath of this rogue board within the last two years!

We, the Members, elect our board members for various reasons. We elected director McAdam because of her vast experience with boards and her knowledge. Those posting on this thread don't think it's okay for the board to terminate directors that WE elected and simply replace them with retread "yes men" directors.

The RCSC has decided to move forward on the Mountainview Theater project. Been a long time in the making and about May they showed the community the plans. It was called plan 1. Had two meetings in May and took some comments. In June they had the 2 final board meetings before the summer break. At the first meeting in June they posted plan 1a and plan 2.

Plan 2 re-positioned the building on the property which resulted in closing the lawn bowling green, pickleball courts, tennis courts, mini golf and horse shoes, permanently. With the repositioning of the building there will be some open land next to the Sun City country club and oddly they showed an ADA compliant mini golf course there. Worse yet they freely admitted that would be phase 3 with phase 2 being a sports pool and no idea when that might happen (2025 or later).

The pickleball players were livid. They were hoping to get more than the 7 courts they have their (Mountainview) now and when the board passed the first reading of moving forward on plan 2, many in the room were angry. Karen McAdam a first year board member spoke about what a bad choice this was. Didn’t matter as the board voted to approve the first reading.

The second meeting in June was worse because the board seemed locked into moving ahead even if it meant the sports clubs at Mountainview lost their venues. Karen pointed out that Sun City on a per capital basis was already under-served compared to other communities. The board didn’t care and to rub salt in the wounds they voted to not have the third reading of the motion that would have/should have happened in September and just have two reading of the motion. Karen pointed out that wasn’t why we have in the past not had a third reading and the reason is so members can voice their opinions.

That was on the last Thursday in June. Karen was leaving on a trip to Germany the next afternoon and she didn’t check her ipad. No reason to as the board was in recess till Sept. Turns out they had sent her an email telling her to come to the board room on Friday for a meeting. Even if she had known about it, she couldn’t have gone. At the meeting 7 board members voted to kick her off the board. Lots of bs reasons, the simple reality is they just wanted her gone.

She is now the second board member fired in two years for doing their job.

    Hope that helps Peg.

Interesting when i think about peg's comment above. The simple reality is most people living in Sun City know virtually nothing about how Sun City works, or worse yet, how it has changed. Those of us who have been involved we make the assumption people get it. Most of the magazines i have done for SCHOA or the RCSC i tried to explain the differences from where they came. No matter how much you tell them, it's still pretty much foreign to them.

I've always felt one of the goals of the RCSC should be to help new comers become comfortable understanding how it works. Sadly over the years i have come to understand they prefer members dumb and in the dark. After all, if all you really want of them is paying their fees and be happy as a "card holder." So sad. We all deserve better.

Update, Nextdoor review restores my access, “ disabled in error.” Really? Wonder how, who caused that happened??

Running away, after being pushed out, from Nextdoor and an apology to Talk of Sun City members and visiting readers.

The day after promoting the importance of attending the Recreation Centers of Sun City Board of Directors meeting, Monday, September 13, 2021, I was SUSPENDED FROM NEXTDOOR FOR A MONTH!!

This punitive action was for violating National & State Politics guidelines. Of course an RCSC discussion is local! Not only am I blocked from the Nextdoor site, my post has been removed! I have requested a review and reinstatement that if successful will restore my access and the post. Foregoing my thoughts on just what happened.

Please accept my apology if you received an email invitation to view the cheerleading post on Nextdoor only to be notified it doesn’t exist. I regret the inconvenience and the lost opportunity to engage members of Sun City at this critical time of recovery in our city’s proud and unique history.

Thank you for all you’re doing!
