Hey E, good to see you are still with us. I just finished watching the Sun City Grand board meeting where they made the decision to close for better than 6 weeks. Interesting and handled really well. It started as a two week closing and then moved to May 1. I also visited the Sun City West website and read their latest. Initially it was all indoor stuff. Then they closed everything else; wait for it...except golf. The argument it was just too expensive a hit to the community to close golf. Sun City Grand decided to allow outside stuff to continue to be used kind of. Not as "club" activities but on an individual basis; kind of. You got it, the golf community was spared any impact. It just all begs the question: Is the golf budget more important than the health of the community at large?

I'm not trying to be a smart ass. These are the kinds of issues we will face here. My guess is the RCSC board will have no choice but to close everything...well almost everything. Golf will get the reprieve. Maybe i am wrong, but i doubt it. I would feel a whole lot better if the community has input on the decision making process. In the end i will support their actions (like i have a choice). The one good thing is at least it will be a board/management decision. I was livid yesterday when a museum board member suggested we meet to make a decision to close or stay open and rather than do that one board member argued/insisted we should just close. I would have probably voted to do just that, but at least when making a collective choice we could have addressed the side issues that go with it. I guess i am just doomed to go through life being disappointed with those i serve with.

My husband was notified yesterday that sun city softball games are being cancelled. They still had 3 more weeks of games in this session.

And we're worrying about the RCSC being closed or not...

I read an article the other day where Boris Johnson's plan was to just let the virus unfold so the masses would develop an immunity to it over time. What a world when you have leaders who just love to spitball it.

Not only will golf go on, but what about the Sun Bowl Shows? Aren't those performers given a contracted amount to play these shows? They, too, are outdoor activities, yet they are usually packed in like sardines. Interesting to see if all outdoor activities are allowed to continue.

It won't be long now. There is little doubt the RCSC will have to act. Closing the centers is inevitable. They really don't have a choice. The only real questions are will they be like Sun City West (closing everything but golf) or closing everything indoor and leaving outside activities to function without formal club oversight (except for golf). For example: SCW-dog park closed. SCG-dog park open. SCW-pickleball-closed. SCG-pickleball open but not as a club activity. In both cases, the golf revenue was viewed as too important to lose. In fairness, other than around the club house, people aren't congregating in large clusters. Still, all decisions that need be made (and judged).

The other question becomes: For how long? Anyone thinking April 1 is only kidding themselves. If you have been following anything by serious writers and not Alex Jones, you understand how important it is to get this thing under control. Limiting personal contact is the imperative. Once it starts spreading, it is almost unstoppable. I hate sounding melodramatic but the world as we know it has changed as of the past week. We'll get through this but the ripple effect will be felt for the next couple of years. The housing market will suffer, businesses will close, personal habits will become different.

Good luck today gang, no matter what you do, people will moan and complain, just the way it is.

Just read the email from the RCSC. Looks like everything is closed effective Tuesday evening when your particular center closes...except golf. Everything else is shut down.

For some reason I have not received any email about the closing. They never fail to keep me in the loop about stuff in which I have no interest !!

  10. I didn’t choose my n9m de plume just to be clever (actually that is true).

I was saying three weeks ago when my WI friends were here thawing out, that this virus is medieval. That we should look at this like the Black Death. Granted, it is not spread by fleas or rats, but it is passed by contact and through the air, think coughs and sneezes. If you look the pattern of travel East to west, it is the same. This virus is a killer to residents of Sun City and we should heed the warnings. Please stay inside and limit outside contact. Wipe surfaces with bleach wipes, wash hands and then use hand sanitizer. Wipe phones, computers, tablets, handles inside your living quarters. Do not use RCSC facilities, please.

I was at the DP yesterday mid-afternoon. Most people already knew of the closures. What was astounding (to me) was the number that expressed that they thought closing the rec centers was "ridiculous". Not to be a chicken little, but I don't think it's a joke. So far, the only sure way to avoid getting COVID19 is to stay away from people who have it -- and that's hard since there's so little testing (so far) we have no idea who has it. Does your neighbor? The person waiting in your doctor's office? The person checking out ahead/behind you at the grocery store? If you don't know who has it, and they themselves don't know they have it, then the only sensible thing is for everyone to stay away from everyone as much as possible -- which is essentially what the CDC and WHO are recommending. The adage risk takers live by -- the early bird gets the worm, etc. But in this case, are you sure you really want to get this "worm"? So far in the US 15% of those admitted to the hospital with it die! Roughly 1 in 6. No thanks!
