I will be watching for a reply regard sighting of possible rocket. Recently someone told me that we "Live in a Bubble" in Sun City. And I do think we are relatively safe.
I didn't see the one yesterday but have seen them in the past. They may look like they were launched close by but probably a long distance from here. You may be able to inquire at Luke if the information isn't restricted. I have contacted them about different issues and they are pretty prompt in their replies. http://www.luke.af.mil/main/contactus.asp
Last week people thought they saw a UFO around Los Angeles Airport. Turned out the military had launched a Trident Missile from a submarine in the ocean. Then regular air traffic was diverted from its usual pattern for for almost a week and they launched another. Military would not say much about it except it was a test. But I've never seen that test in the 25 years I've been here.
When I lived in San Diego, Edwards AFB regularly launched rockets that created amazing colors and patterns in the night sky. They never warned us ahead of time, didn't occur to me to be afraid, was always thrilled to catch the show. Ignorance is bliss, I guess. Looking forward to being able to see sky again. Not much visible from my little hole in the jungle except straight up and that's usually cloudy. A glimpse of the moon and stars is a big deal here, sunrise and sunset pretty much nonexistent. My SC condo faces a little east of north so should be good views in all directions from front lawn. Can't wait!
My brother worked at Vandenburg Air Force Base near Santa Maria, CA. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vandenberg_Air_Force_Base). They often tested rockets - sending them out into the ocean. Needless to say, the public was not forewarned. Air Shows are great. I lived in Washington State near Whidbey Island Naval Air Station and always went to the shows. Eventually I moved to a place on the island where I could walk to the bluff overlooking the water and watch the show! Just an FYI. Whidbey Air Station has often been on the closure list. However, it remains open because it is the closest Air Station to Russia!! Also, planes can "practice " over the water.
I had a panicky moment many years ago, thinking the UFOs had landed. I was headed back to work after dinner break and saw something very peculiar in the night sky. My first feeling was complete panic, then curiosity which led to being more than a little embarrassed that I had been so frightened, if only momentarily. Turned out to be a small plane with a message in moving lights on the underside of the wings, just advertising. As for the air show(s), count me out. I'm from Reno and did the Air Races every year, worked for the city and was licensed ham operator so watched from the tower. Then I moved to Ramona, CA where I lived a quarter mile from the airport. It was a small airport and pretty quiet except during wildfires when the big borate bombers flew out of there. But, once a year in June, they had an air show with all kinds of stunt planes and military jets streaking over my house/property at very low level, totally panicking my animals (and me), lasted 2-1/2 days. I dreaded June and especially the jets, was not sorry to leave that behind. I don't mind planes overhead (tourist helicopters headed for the volcano all day here) but have no desire to be anywhere near the crazy stuff ever again. Sorry if that makes me a party-pooper, but there you are, guess I am. I will, however, enjoy the distant, quiet light show that the missiles create if I'm lucky enough to catch them in the act.
One of the best airshows I saw was on Oahu about 18 years ago. I was just visiting for a week, walked down to the beach to see the ocean and right at that moment an air show started. I had never seen military planes so low, I mean really low and close to the crowd on the beach. F16s I imagine but I forget. And very loud. Won't ever forget that one it.
