Sun City #2 destination for...

One of my favorite websites is 55Places.com. It was built several years ago by a couple of former Pulte/Del Webb Sun City sales guys who saw the handwriting on the wall. They understood there was a need to begin to showcase the thousands of age restricted communities in a no nonsense kind of way.

It was a massive undertaking as they developed an online resource for those looking for comparisons of potential retirement locations. They have evolved slowly and with a purpose. Each year they add new features. This year when they were in town we spent some time at the museum and then toured the new Fairway Rec Center. They loved what we are doing to the community.

Here's the big news: They do weekly stories on all things retirement and this weekend they posted an article on most visited pages on their site in the past year. The Villages of Florida was number 1, the original Sun City was number 2. Pretty impressive given the stiff competition we face on their site. Here's the link to the story, read to the bottom and you'll see the kind of commentary I do on a regular basis on the site.

Just as an aside, if you go to the Sun City page, you will see you can post comments about the community, why you love it, how you found it, etc.

I like how you have your links highlighted.
    How do you do it?

You know where the links button is peg, so before you connect the link, scroll over the words you want to link to. For instance I wanted to link "link to the story." It will be highlighted and when you click on the button the highlight will disappear but after you cut and paste the link into the box that appears and post it the script will then be placed into the text itself. It will wrap the highlighted section and when you post the response, walla. I find the best way on new sites is to play around a bit and not actually post but to find out what's doable and what's not. Even then it's a challenge.

Note to admins: It would be awesome if one could fix their mistakes in the headers. Love the edit feature for the thread, but for those of us who still act before they think...well you get my drift eh?

Awesome admin and thanks for the kind words. I've been using message boards and forums for the past dozen years and love this form of communication. I saw your ad in the back of the SunViews and will try and get a brief column in the July issue to encourage Sun City residents to join stop by and chat.

Thanks for the tip as well...worked brilliantly.

Dang, spoke too soon. Fixed the header but not the lead from the front page. Any suggestions admin?

Message to self...learn to slow down and do it right the first time.

Now that I have that out of the way, nice job on the comments on 55places gang. Just to hone in a little deeper, here is the link to the Sun City AZ page. If you click on the review button you can both leave a review of the community and then rate it as a place to live.

The other buttons across the top are quite interesting as well and I think their site integrates nicely with this one. One of my frustrations with 55places is they have no forum, but only allow moderated comments on topics they have posted. It may be of interest to the moderators to suggest to the owner of that site (Bill Ness) they do a story for those living in Sun City communities to cross pollinate readers by doing a story on 55places about TOSC. No idea how he would respond but what's the adage...nothing gained, nothing lost.

We had to change the thread name which is done... I don't think users can change it.. Any problems in the future just contact us and we'll do it for that... Thanks for suggestion on 55places... we'll look into it...

Job well done bro....or is it sis? No matter, the cool thing about message boards and forums is gender is immaterial as are so many other aspects of them.

    Nice!
