Had you taken the time to read the thread the topic was is Wiki reliable. Einar said it is, however anyone can edit content. Universities don't allow students to use Wiki as a source. So you think it's honorable to remove accomplishments of a person who served our country in a war? Nice. Kinda let's me know how you feel about Walz' stolen valor too.

    Sure. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:JD_Vance
If you go to any wikiprdia article right under the name of the article there are two links, "Article" and "Talk". At least this is how it shows up on my computer screen. I'm not sure how it looks on phones. Further over to the right at the same level as "Talk" is a "View history" link. This allows you to see the edits or changes that have been made.

If we go into the "How reliable is wikipedia?" discussion here is someone then going to accuse me of hi-jacking the thread? Let's assume "not" but we all know about assumptions. Okay. Any one can edit wikipedia except for those who have been banned. Mostly that happens when a editor engages in vandalism. But I believe that wikipedia is a reliable as most books you read and more so than most blogs and op eds. As far as I can see, I did not read all the talk on the topic, Vance's ribbons were removed for several reasons. They were put in the wrong place. They were all put in the "Info Box" (or whatever it is call) that is on the right side of the "page." That box is for a summation of some points of the article, so everything in the article does not go there. Most of it goes in the article. The objection to including every medal Vance earned is that they do not all belong in the info box. Some of them are what in school were called "participation awards", ones that someone earned just for being there. Look up Dwight D. Eisenhower, for example and see how his awards are done. Or look up Ruben Gallego who would have received some of the smae ribbons. They are not included. No one would have objected to doing Vance's that way. And HH, I have no idea what "Kinda let's me know how you feel about Walz' stolen valor too" refers to. This is getting long so you will have to wait to hear more of my thoughts on wikipedia editing.

Don't read your posts anymore. They are far too long and boring. What I meant was you seem to be ok with people removing Vance's info on Wiki, a man who actually served our country and went to war, so by association you must be ok with Walz stolen valor and him saying he carried weapons of war in a war zone which never happened. Ran into a man whose BIL was in the same battalion with Walz. They despised him for doing what he did.

But when you look at a Real American Hero like Audie Murphy, all his awards are listed in that side bar? The side bar that you said is not the proper place?

    Awards
So it appears that whoever added the information also decided where it belongs. It's what's called an option!

But those of us who actually served understand what's going on. Wikipedia is simply another arm of the so called main stream media, which is an arm of the Democrat Party's miss information campaign!

If you go to the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audie_Murphy_honors_and_awards you will see that Murphy was awarded many more than appear in the info box. As for your claim that " But those of us who actually served understand what's going on. Wikipedia is simply another arm of the so called main stream media, which is an arm of the Democrat Party's miss information campaign!" well I just started a thread about wikipedia so that is best discussed there.

Then there is Desmond Doss the only C. O. to receive the Medal of Honor. Learn about him in the movie Hacksaw Ridge, truly someone that adds to all the recipients of the Medal of Honor.

FYI, this has nothing to do with this thread but the Budget&Finance meeting scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled, no reason given, probably because an amount of committee members are out of town. It has not been rescheduled at this time. Didn’t want you to show up to an empty room and no idea why.

Thanks for the heads-up! I was planning on attending!

Any word on when the RCSC is planning to hold those so-called Town-Hall meetings too introduce us to next years budget, or are they going to simply and suddenly spring it on us with no explanation?

And I still think the rule that says, "A standing committee is a small group of Members, subordinate to the Board, which is organized to assist the Board in specific areas as follows and does not meet in the months of July and August. Other months without meetings can be determined by each committee individually" is simply another ambiguous rule. What does, "does not meet in July and August mean"?

Does it mean they are actually "forbidden" to meet or simply that they are not "required" to meet? Another word salad that needs a more definitive explanation!

FYI, while your interpretations are correct, the instant matter really is a case of members flowing out beautiful Arizona weather for parts unknown. There was also talk of the MIA members doing remote, which was set up but was obviously cancelled when the meeting was axed.

As for the town halls, some dates have been tossed around but nothing definite was set. I will say the committee wanted to meet before the first town hall because we have not seen the budget but have seen the 5 year plan on capital projects. Looks like we will wipe out backlog in three years which is good news considering the staggering amount. Look for a B&F meeting in early September but after Labor Day. We want to be up to speed on the budget so we can answer questions intelligently. A fact the Sun City residents should know is that wages and benefits are a large part of the budget and before people go crazy, a lot of the wages go to employees that are residents.

Will advise as soon as I know more.

Another bylaw pho-pah! Committee's currently are not authorized to hold Zoom meetings!

Electronic Meetings in Committees. As in the case of a board or any assembly, committees that are expressly established by the bylaws can hold a valid electronic meeting only if authorized in the bylaws to do so. A committee that is not expressly established by the bylaws, however, may instead be authorized to hold electronic meetings by a standing rule of the parent body or organization, by the motion establishing the particular committee, or by instructions included in a motion referring an individual matter to the committee or issued subsequent to such a motion.” (RONR 12th Ed. 9:35)

If the bylaws had correctly established a separate Article on "Electronic Meetings" within the bylaws, (along with the adoption of additional rules pertaining to their conduct), rather than placing that allowance in Article V, Board of Directors alone, there apparently wouldn't be a problem, which means those standing committee meetings currently meeting via Zoom are in violation of the bylaws.

    Just say'n!

I get it but I think a lot of people will be pissed off. Some would like to have had an opportunity for input prior to finalizing the budget rather than being dictated to and told "that's just the way it is, and going to be". And dare I say be careful if the presentation includes the longer term 5-10 year plan! People aren't going to like the proposed increase in assessments every year! Since the budgets are revised and approved on the basis of one-year terms, I would suggest concentrating on that alone.

You know people will go crazy anyway as their Social Security benefits don't grow nearly as fast or high as the recent cost of living! The current estimated cost-of-living increase for SS in 2025 is only 2.6%. Whoever makes the presentations better be wearing their armor!

FYI, you are correct about the Zoom meetings but they were included in the revised by laws I worked on a couple of years ago. Didn’t like the idea but went along with it. The new by laws were voted down so don’t come after me, find out who was on the Board them and ask them why they voted them down. I would start with Karen McAdam since she seems to be leading the charge.
As for any increase in fees, ask yourself this, do you want to keep fees as they are and start deferring maintenance again or close down rec centers, maybe start cutting corners on insurance, stagnate wages? The committee has wrestled with this also. We don’t operate in a vacuum contrary to public opinion.

I wasn't blaming you! I was merely pointing out what the current bylaws, which are currently in affect state. When the draft of the newly proposed bylaws emerge, hopefully in September, I will be just as critical to the things that I believe need to be better defined or addressed.

I never said I was against increasing the assessments fees, only that perhaps the Members should have had some more input and explanation before the budget is written in stone and approved by the board. I'm not suggesting that the Member's opinions should dictate or change anything, but it would be nice to have a more open dialog. It's the transparency and communication thing again. If you don't attend board, exchanges, or committee meetings, you will only read rumors on social media, which in most cases are over exaggerated or simply wrong.

True, we elect Directors to represent the Members, and the Directors give direction to management, however, one-third of the Directors leave the board at the end of each year. All I'm saying is, which is probably a good thing, the tail, (management and staff), is wagging the dog! Management and staff have a better handle, historically, on the financial needs and wants than does any individual Director. All I hope for is that the board and each Director does their due diligence when reviewing the F&B committees numbers and reasons.

I do hope that once things are explained, the Members will better accept the need for assessment increases. I'm not saying that they will like it, only that they will better understand it!

FYI, I see your well reasoned point which is why I have been pushing for some fundamental changes to the audited financial statements so members with no real financial background can read them and “yes, I see what the committee and Board are saying.” The one big step would be a comparative statement, last audited statement next to the current audited statement. That would include expense statement also so members would have a handle on where the money was spent.

There were other changes I thought beneficial when the committee met with auditors but was shut down my the Chair. Consequently the rest of the meeting was based on discussing banalities that really doesn’t help the statement or the members. I really want to meet the auditors one on one to discuss my points but I feel that will never happen. We might have a comparative statement this year, don’t know but it would help to explain any fee increase.

Add Coco's Bakery and Restaurant to the list of businesses closing in Sun City. All the shops closing because of the internet, I was told.

I think Cocos was old, out of date and catered to the older crowd, many who now have their meals served at assisted living and care homes. Like you say, HH, things need to be kept up and modernized.

That was not the reason they closed (you can google it), and if you look for the thread on ND many people are sad about it from all age groups. The one in Flagstaff closed as well. Isn't that a college town?
