Just wanted to say hi to my fellow Sun City residents. Do we have a great little city or what? We are having fun here with the clay clubs.

I am new to this site too. It's fun to chat with you all. I am a golfer so I don't know much about the clubs. Tell me more about the clay clubs? ?

Be happy to fill you in on the clay club. I belong to the Lake Center club and love it. There is another clay club at the Marienete (sp?) center on Union Hills as well. Both are very busy with both beginners as well as more seasoned clay people. I love the wheel and mostly throw pots but there is an active handbuilding group and a sculpture group as well. We have classes in all the subjects with professional teachers. We also have guest teachers who are professional production/artists come in as well. Our beginning wheel teacher is awesome and gets people making pots in short order so we always encourage new members to try the wheel. You can start with handbuilding if you are not too comfortable spinning. We just had our juried show and it was lovely. We feed the guests with homemade goodies and they can wander around to look at the entry pieces. We have several shows a year and always a huge crowd. You would not have time to be bored in this club. Some of the people are involved in the beading club and make stunning purses and jewelry. They also do the lapidary club and the jewelry that comes from this club is beautiful. There is a silversmith club as well and they make jewelry and other things as well. The woodworking club is so popular they just added on to the building to make more room. I also love the pools we have here and frequent the gym. The gyms have equipment that is well maintained and mostly new. Then....the golf courses...7 of them!
We love it here and had purchased a little two bed one bath fixer and took most of the home down to the studs and added two rooms and a master bathroom. Some of the homes here do need a little upgrading but are worth the time and effort in our opinion. It is a quirky little city and suits us to a T. LOL

Thought I would include information about the "Clay Club" in Sun City Phoenix (Original) mentioned here for others asking about it... TalkOfSunCity is also in the process of updating the "Sun City Arizona - Phoenix (Original), West, Grand" CLUB section for the convenience of all users. Here is the info if interested:

Please join the Sun City (Original) Clay Club which is a full service studio for potters with all levels of experience. There are hand building and wheel rooms as well as teaching, glazing and kin rooms. There is an area in which to display pieces for sale. Lockers are now available for a minimal cost. Beginning hand building, wheel and sculpture classes are ongoing and are given in winter, spring, and fall with several monthly workshops during the summer months.

Summer Hours: 8am - 3pm Tuesday - Thursday and Saturday
Evening Hours when there are 2 members present are 6-9pm Tuesday and Thursday.

Husband and I were given a tour of the Sun City West Clay Club and we came away very, very impressed with the layout and the warm welcome we received. If you love clay, you would love the facility here.

I'm new to this site as well and I'm looking for some fun thing to do. Is there a local theater group or community theater in the area?

Thanks Fiona for the info on the clay club. After your description I couldn't help but think of Demi Moore sitting at her clay wheel in the movie "Ghost" !!! LOL

Here is a number for the RCSC Club Activities office here in Sun City. I do believe there is a theater group, but this is the department that can help you more than I can. Best of luck! 623-561-4660
