    Our work is just beginning!

Just because the agenda doesn’t appear to have any “hot topics” associated with it, that is no reason for us to get complacent! Now, more than ever, we need to attend this meeting to listen, to observe, to question!!

This meeting will be our first introduction to our candidates for the 2021 election. Again, observe and listen. Our opportunity to ask questions of the candidates will be at the two Candidate Forums; one is Monday, November 1 @ 2 p.m. at Sundial with a social beginning 1/2-hour prior. The second forum will be on Wednesday, November 3 @ 6 p.m. at Sundial with a social starting at 5:30 p.m. If you have a few hours, watch the forums from last year that are located on Sun City AZ YouTube. Listen to the questions asked. Do you think that they were good questions? Do you think it’s a good idea to ask open ended questions? Rather than tip our hand ahead of time, I’m recommending that we do NOT discuss our questions/comments here on Talk of Sun City.

The Board confirmed to me at the September 30th meeting that Board Meetings Member Comments (or an email) are the only two ways to ask questions of them. You, as a member, can ask anything that relates to the Board. I’m preparing several questions – I challenge you to ask one! We have such a diversity of readers/posters on this forum; we should be able to come up with some good, thought-provoking questions.

After the Board meeting, there will be a Planning Session. It is open to the Members, but we cannot speak. One of the topics is “Status associated with the Arizona Water Resources Department (AWRD) 5th Water Management Plan. WE SHOULD ALL BE INTERESTED IN THIS TOPIC – especially if you play golf or live on a golf course.

    Sundial Auditorium, 9 a.m.
According to the Board, currently you are NOT required to present your RCSC Member or Privilege card upon entry. I'm bringing mine.

I have to say it. This was at times pure agony sitting through the BOD Meeting. If it wasn't for the fact we wanted to hear the planning session we would have left after the first round of resident comments as by the 5th time around we were squirming. Not only do I agree with the 3 minutes but I'd go for a maximum of 3 trips for 9 minutes total.

Sorry....a bit of crankiness has set in after the news we were unknowingly exposed to COVID at the 9/30 meeting. Just wrong that the person exposed to COVID was at this meeting and unmasked during a period of time they should have been isolating at home! So now will the RCSC send out an email that we were all exposed again? Is any exposure tracking being done?

Apparently at one time the Board met with members outside of Board meeting to "chat." These meetings were done away with. Committee meetings were videotaped during 2020/shutdown. Now they aren't. I am a member, and if this meeting (with time constraint of 3 minutes which is often taken up by the Board/Executive response) or an email are the only way to get an answer to a question, I'll continue to ask questions. Several other members have thanked me for bringing up topics/and getting answers to questions. Too many times I've found it extremely hard to find the answers on the RCSC site or discovered it just wasn't there.

Please don't give them incentive to put into play another means of restricting us from speaking/asking questions (limiting the number of times one can speak). Rather than restrict us members again, perhaps the suggestion would be to have the Planning session at a different time; not following a Board meeting.

I have not seen the video yet (shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to post the video) but if in fact members were exposed to Covid by a fellow member
masks should be required at ALL SC meetings until the pandemic is declared over. Masks should also be worn correctly. Mouth and Nose covered.

I have sent an email to the Board asking them to get all of the details and dates straight (it was rather confusing to listen to with 3-minute segments of what took place) and then send out an email blast. It was alarming to hear it in person; will be a shock to those who watch it and were there.
I suggest you do the same.

Just a little fiction I made up -- an entity had to hold regular public meetings it didn't really want to, so they thought up ways to discourage attendance -- uncomfortable chairs, make attendees show identification, limit participation, and for their pièce de ré·sis·tance claim people with communicable diseases were attending the meetings.

Except in a certain case it was the person themself claiming they were exposed recently to a communicable disease and had to be isolated. Is this like saying "FIRE!" in a crowded theater? I do agree certain fictional chairs have a comfort period of about 45 minutes unless you are being distracted by a rousing game of Bingo.

So where is the video of the board meeting? Did anyone get it yet?

Not yet, but i did get the Moonlight Madness Bowling results. Priorities i guess.

All kidding aside, i hope they break the session into three individual parts. Way easier to digest that way.

Just curious Bill, but did I hear correctly that you asked the board if they had read the documents you have concerning the golf courses and that one or more board members answered they had read them?

How could that be if the GM had told you that they were spread out somewhere?

I did ask and the first response was from Gene Westermeier who stated he read them and knew exactly what they said, then several others reaffirmed they too had read them. Shocked me and delighted me. It only makes the discussion easier going forward. I also button holed the outgoing gm and she said she thought that agreement had gone away when the Sun City Golf Association made up of board members was consolidated into just the RCSC. The problem of course is the two documents were not one in the same. The language to be self-sufficient was in the agreement from 1975 that was amended when the took ownership in 1977. The two changes had nothing to do with being self-sustaining but dealt with a couple of interim items while DEVCO was transitioning out of ownership.

I don't know how or when or where they got them, i know i never did when i asked.

It would be very interesting to learn all the facts regarding the boards assertion that Lori was signed in at Mountain View (I think it was Sunday), but I doubt there will be any investigation and no forth coming facts.

Darla Akins said at least 2 times that they were not looking to hire a parliamentarian but wanted a volunteer.

A volunteer would not be acceptable as it might give the appearance of prejudice or favoritism towards the board.

A non SC resident must be HIRED as the Parliamentarian. There were rumors that Hoffer was slated to be the Parliamentarian.

    NOT A GOD IDEA!!!!!!!!!

I am wondering why the board feels it is important to track a member to this level of detail. I think privacy is being violated. This is not what sign-in data is for.

Did I sleep through this motion at the October 11th Meeting? This is from the October Lawn Bowling Committee Meeting Summary:

New Business: Len, Norm and Pete (via phone) met with the RCSC Board of Directors and Senior Management on Friday October 8, 2021 to see a plan for phase 3 of the Mountain View renovation. The plan will be presented to the Board for a motion at the October 11, 2021 Board Meeting.
