Are we rounding the corner or is it an oval track??

In another thread Pegmih asked if it was normal to feel paranoid at this point in COVID pandemic. She was concerned about shopping at stores. We have availed ourselves of grocery delivery to our doorstep from Walmart & Safeway for the past 7 months.

We tried the senior shopping hours and have found they aren't enforced. Quite a few of the younger and even some of the senior shoppers don't wear masks which is required by Maricopa County mandate. The stores will not confront those refusing to wear a mask.

So, we will continue to place our orders online, have delivery to our doorstep, wipe everything down with alcohol before putting away and the convenience is well worth the small delivery charge. I don't know when I'll feel comfortable shopping in a crowd and I don't think it's a case of being paranoid.

  2. I am very concerned about Covid as I have many of the checkpoints (heart, diabetes, etc.) and where to shop. I agree with pegmihn and shop at Sprouts on T-Bird as I have noticed over the past several months the shoppers wear masks (even the children) and social distance when able (some Unintentional back ups in the narrower aisles). It appears to be a better “class” of people who take this virus seriously. I have also shopped at different times to see when less crowded. I have also done the same with Safeway on Olive.

I would like to use Fairway rec center but learned none of the employees have been tested for Covid (the cotton swab in the nose thing). This worries me as front desk people change daily and I have no immune system. The weather has change so I can walk around the golf course or around the ‘hood.

This is just a reminder that the requirement to renew your AZ driver's license has been modified. If your license was set to expire between March 20, 2020 & December 31, 2020, you now have a one year extension of the expiration date. Your driver's license will show the extension on the AZDOT electronic records if there is ever a need to have it looked up. This was done to alleviate lines at the MVD to help stop COVID transmission. Yay!!

I stay home as much as practical. When I need to go out I think I can be responsible and protect myself by wearing my mask (correctly -- ie, no below the nose stuff, etc.), avoiding crowds/social distancing, hand-washing and properly sanitizing things I bring home (and things they/I may have touched in the car -- it's a simple process to wipe things down with disinfectant wipes, but it takes time and discipline). Experts tell us these actions work and evidence in other countries support that it does. Granted, I have lapses of judgement and forget to do these things occasionally, so my wife and I worry about each other and try to remind each other to act safely. It's not 100%, but as good as it will likely get until most of the country is vaccinated or a cure is discovered. I'm a realist when it comes to the challenge of vaccinating the majority of our nation... it's a daunting and complex task that likely will take over a year regardless what the current administration claims. Hence, the upcoming holiday season (T'giving thru Easter) is off my radar -- maybe Thanksgiving 2021, though.

IMO, those that have become lax in these precautions are foolish. Those that refuse outright, claiming it's an intrusion on their freedom, etc. are hypocrites -- they take the medications and follow the directions prescribed by their doctors to, presumably, keep themselves alive -- but they won't wear a mask medical professionals tell them will protect them? They look before they cross the street and wait for safe passage but they won't social distance to protect themselves from someone passing by who could be infectious? They wash their hands after touching dirty things but... well, you get my point. I worry about these people because they are potential disease spreaders to their families, neighbors, and people they come in contact with. But I've stopped worrying about whether they themselves get sick. There are consequences to their actions and evolution favors those that make the better decisions. The gene pool is better off without them.

Anyone a bit mystified that Debbie Lesko has finally decided to isolate now that the election is over and it's Thanksgiving holiday week? She must have been exposed due to her own lack of masking at least 20 times over the past month. Huh...

Pretty amazing how so many of the republican's are having to go into lock down and isolating. Let's have a few dozen more rallies and call them go-away gatherings for the president. Makes you wonder how much of the explosion of covid19 cases are due to his repeated trips everywhere before the election? Especially insightful to see trump's solution to the pandemic is to go golfing. Shameful.

Governor Ducey and Arizona local officials do it again!! Exactly how are they preventing the spread of COVID in Arizona? This excerpt from an article posted online at CNN shows just how backwards the efforts to protect citizens are in Arizona

    From CNN on 11/27/2020:

The Desert Super Cup is an annual youth soccer tournament taking place over Thanksgiving weekend. The games are being played as Covid-19 cases are on the rise in Phoenix.
This year's tournament is set to feature 460 out-of-state teams and 40 in-state teams.

Fauci says he's worried about what coronavirus case numbers will be 3 weeks after Thanksgiving
"Absolutely fantastic news," said Phoenix City Council member Sal DiCiccio in a tweet. "The 800 kid soccer tournament will still be held in Phoenix this coming weekend. They are coming here because they had been banned everywhere else and we have amazing facilities. We welcome you and your families to our great city!"

Technically, Arizona has banned public events with more than 50 people, but the state left some wiggle room, allowing local officials to bypass the law if they approve the event. The Phoenix City Council has the ability to call the tournament off, but has not done so -- though Mayor Kate Gallego has voiced her disapproval of the event.

It is interesting to note that Sweden, much lauded for its “herd immunology” approach to the virus, yesterday had slightly less deaths than neighbors Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland combined. Good news for some, but not everyone.

My guess is many of those idiots without the mask also attended trump's super-spreader events. All about freedumb you know.

Huh. Another holiday week coming up and guess who's isolated at home because of supposed exposure to COVID??

Well, I had to go to Home Depot yesterday for some necessary repair parts. Although most people had masks "on", a large number (including more than a few employees) were not wearing the mask to cover their nose. HD needs to do as good a job educating their employees about Covid safety as they do about running saws, forklifts, etc. After all, the masks are to protect both their employees and us, their customers. They won't let a customer in an isle with a forklift, but they will without a mask. Just guessing, but I suspect more people get Covid at Home Depot than are injured by forklifts.

The positivity rate in Maricopa county is above 10% -- that means, on average, 1 in every 10 people you pass in a store isle has Covid. Social distancing and mask-wearing are effective means to reduce virus spread. It's impossible in Home Depot to maintain social distancing in some areas. The same is true in most grocery stores, dollar stores, etc. I won't even go into a Walmart -- they seem not to care about masks at all. I guess the County mask mandate means nothing to them.

Home Depot has a long history of backing conservative issues and donating to conservative causes. They probably still think that COVID is a fraud.

Sprouts , Trader Joe’s and Costco seem to be enforcing their mask policy.
In WA Amazon delivers my groceries weekly. Drivers are masked. Everything smells of the disinfectant when it arrives. Amazon Go has opened in WA. There are no checkouts. Walk in, scan credit card, shop, walk out the door.
The hardest place to keep a mask fitting properly is probably Home Depot when buying lumber, cement bags etc.

Ahhh, you mean the $3.15 million they contributed in 2020 (thanks to Citizens United) and over 1-mil in lobbying? Lowes wasn't much different I've heard.

Hmmmm, perhaps. But mostly I can't see that as a valid reason for most people -- particularly for people just cruising the store buying little things. Many of the contractors I saw seemed to have masks that fit just fine. I wear a mask at work, sometimes for 5-6 hours straight, and don't have a problem. So it's hard to see why others have so much trouble. Masks come in different sizes and composition. My thoughts are -- for people who can't keep their nose/mouth covered I suggest they get a mask that fits properly, not just say "oh the h*** with it" and put themselves and others at risk. For those that think they can't breath thru their mask, get a mask that works for them. For those that don't want to wear a mask, use the curbside pickup -- even Home Depot has curbside, at least they advertise they have it.

Include SCHOA on the list of those that show lack of regard for protection of others. I watched the SCHOA Board of Director's meeting which is posted on their YouTube website and was appalled that there were at least 5 members in attendance that weren't wearing masks. This is a small room with an overhead circulating fan which only helps to spread any airborne particles. The fact that the meeting was carried on ZOOM for those not in attendance was a step in the right direction.

There have been instances of COVID and quarantines at SCHOA which has also happened at the RCSC. NO ONE should be allowed into SCHOA without WEARING a mask. I hope those that attended the meeting are taking their temperatures and watching for even minor symptoms.

All through their news blasts and website they preach safety and mask wearing. The time has come to set an example.

People no matter who they are who refuse to wear masks need to be called out in public what they really are and that's TRUMP SCUM. No respect for others period. It's all about them until they get sick then the excuse is that I didn't know it was this bad. You don't like the truth too bad. I tell it like it is like it or not. Too many people dying because of ignorant people.

What I find somewhat distressing is that it is such a self-imposed ignorance, something that I've seen many of these same folks use in other matters too. The facts or reality is out in the open for all to see, so people just chose not to see it.

So, 383 Arizona deaths reported in the past 3 days. The really disturbing fact is that these are deaths from 1-2 weeks ago. We still haven't gotten the surge from Christmas/New Years. I don't know how much more we can hunker down and isolate but we can't afford to expose ourselves to those that still think COVID isn't a horrid, debilitating and many times fatal disease for seniors.

It is not surprising that our government allowed the Fiesta Bowl to take place in Glendale where Iowa State totally ignored mask guidelines at the game. We continue to let the 49rs use our stadium for their games. We can't expect any help from any of our legislators at this point.

BUT, maybe things will start to change with a new crowd in the US Legislature who seem to care about the health & welfare of its people. One can only hope for a positive change.
