We just got done covering all our more freeze susceptible plants and shrubs. We use sheets and mattress pad covers which don't have to be removed in the daytime.(Don't use plastic.) The next 4 nights will have temps dropping to freezing and as low as the high 20s. We also wrapped our outside faucets. I can't remember if we had these hard freezes last year but about 3 years ago the stretch of low overnight temps did a lot of freeze damage to plants, plumbing and citrus. The positive to the freezing temps is that it does kill off many unwanted insects.

It's best to be prepared and just hope the temps don't get as low as predicted. I just keep telling myself that overnight lows occasionally below 30 is still much better than having that for daytime highs! :smug:

Several years ago I got up in the morning and did not have water. Fortunately, the pipes were not broken and were unfrozen in a few hours. I learned my lesson and always cover my pipes and plants. I am considering keeping one faucet trickling during the night. Good idea? Bad idea?
