Fixing what's broken at SCHOA

In numerous threads there have been lots of great comments regarding the vendor program. Simply put, it has value in the grand scheme of SCHOA moving forward, but IMHO, it's a nice add-on to all of the other things they do in the community.
Obviously compliance is first and foremost, and hopefully it will always be done with a compassionate side to it.

I've had some people say to me; how can SCHOA treat you like that after all you have done. Let me be clear, they owe me nothing except what should be due every other member/resident. No one is entitled to special treatment.

What i expected was to see this handled in a way where it would be viewed by those looking at it and making a decision based on the facts. What i found was an excuse to dump my complaint because they needed to have another one to act. As Gary C said in another thread was absolutely spot on: The vendor has a business relationship with SCHOA while the resident has a personal relationship.

Here's even an easier out for those on the board come Tuesday: I don't want special treatment. I want this board to set a policy that if a member is screwed by a vendor, that vendor is kicked off the list and never allowed back on it. I don't need money back i lost, i just don't want to see another resident getting stuck like i did. Seems like a win/win to me.

The good news here E is we know board members are reading the board and will get the message loud and clear; SCHOA's core mission is not a vendor program and a bunch of seminars. Nice value added, but little more than that.

I truly hope no one misses the point emily was making about the website. That website speaks volumes to those looking for information. There's no question, it should be clear what SCHOA is all about within the first couple of minutes of reading it.

SCHOA's website Sun City Home Owners Assoc - SCHOA - Sun City Home Owners Association - SCHOA In my opinion SCHOA does a great job. How we get and receive information can be a problem. Yes, it is unfortunate how we receive information and not have all the facts. Getting involved and that means going to the SCHOA meetings, setting an appointment with a Director, Executive Director or Compliance officer to go through an issue that is problematic. It is like a puzzle and not all the pieces fit because we only have some of the facts and assume the rest and therefore we assume the worst. An opinion out in the open can hurt any organization without knowing just what happened factually; called the chain of events.

SCHOA or a variation of it has been around since 1962 and has always been there for the residents of Sun City. Over the years there has been ebbs and flows to course and effort, but for the long haul as a voluntary membership organization has done wonders. back in the day they had membership hovering just over 80% of the population. I guess back then people understood the importance of belonging/caring.

Through all of its ups and downs, it still plays a critical role in keeping the community looking good and working towards a better Sun City.

From their website, here is it's core mission: To preserve property values through fair and universal compliance with the community’s Deed Restrictions, also known as Conditions, Covenants and Restrictions (CC&Rs).

As long as they keep that front and center, everything else they do is a distant second.

Interesting meeting today at SCHOA. I will come back to this later, off now to get a photo-journalist into a dinner meeting to talk with Sun City residents and get some shots.

Good to see, nice crowd at the SCHOA meeting this morning. Got a chance to question the vendor program and the net was the board was willing to meet with me in the next week or two. Only rub was one of the existing board members telling me it wasn't SCHOA's job to help me get revenge on Tru Builder...really? As i told them, it is embarrassing and wrong to allow a vendor to continue on in a program that is meant to help residents, not screw them.

As i was leaving the meeting the other day i told the executive director i wanted a copy of the alleged "policy" relating to the two strike rule passed by the board. So far, nada, nothing, zero, zip, Go figure, must be deeply buried.

Great news; got an email from SCHOA today. Scheduled a meeting for next Thursday with the board at 1 pm. They also sent along a "procedure" for these kinds of issues, not a policy. Asked when it was drafted and passed by the board. We'll see eh?

It will be interesting to sit with board members and lay it my case. I don't think there is any question there were differences between my contractor and i. We can argue about quality of work, but trying to change a contract to get out of work, is simply inexcusable.

For those who don't know, SCHOA is a free standing organization and has no ties to the RCSC.
