For anyone who reads this site, you may have noticed my signature at the bottom of every post...it is the same as the header on this thread; community before corporations, people before politics. I use it because i believe it embodies the essence of Sun City. From the outset, residents opened up their hearts and minds and worked to build a community that rose above what we find outside the walls.

It was always about putting those living here ahead of the trappings found in the politics in local governing bodies and the money driven concepts of a corporate culture. We learned early on to take care of our own.

I am one of those odd ducks who bought into the community in a large part because of that collective mentality.
I loved the idea that if i saw something wrong or i didn't like, i could put my hand up, volunteer and make an actual difference. From my first glimpse, it was a beautiful thing.

Over the years i have spent countless hours trying to instill in those living here, buying here or considering buying here why our history matters. In virtually every speech i have given, magazines i have written or interviews i have done, it always goes back to the importance of the residents taking ownership of the process of self-governance. Without it, we simply wither and die; just to become another age restricted community where you pay for all of the services rendered.

I'd like to think i made a small difference along the way. Sun City's history is filled with stories of those who have given back to the community. They have fought to preserve the value, the values and the tenets that insured we survive and grow forward. That as we evolve we don't lose those ideologies that made us different from the countless other communities out there.

    More to come eh?

Couldn't agree more E; truly a great place to live. One of the things that could ruin it would be those running organizations like SCHOA to become shills for folks who don't live here but are willing to pay for referrals. When that happens, we quickly see how the money becomes far more important the people living here...corporate mentality anyone?

The important thing for all of who live here is to pay attention as to what goes on. Board members should always be the buffer for employees who often hired to look out for the organization.

Truly, our infrastructure is what makes Sun City unique. We run ourselves and that only works if residents step up and get involved.

Such a shame, nothing more than a game eh?
