Just a quick reminder about the Weds June 6 show tonight for Sun City rec card holders and their escorted guests. It begins at 7pm with the doors opening at 6 pm at the Sun Dial auditorium and features the Big Iron Bad with Chris Campbell. They will be doing a Marty Robbins tribute show.

Anyone familiar with Marty's music probably knows he grew up minutes away from Sun City in Glendale AZ. This song is one of my all time favorites, hopefully Big Iron will perform it; My Woman, My Woman, My Wife.

Here's the detail from the RCSC website.

The show was pretty good. 1200 people, most of which stayed for the whole show. There was an added bonus as the performer originally slated to appear had the wedding he was slated to be at cancelled, came by and spent the evening on the stage with the Big Iron Band. Rollie Steven's will be putting on The Tribute to our Veterans on Nov 12 at the Sun Bowl added to the wonderful performance.

What i don't understand is: why did the band named after one of Marty's biggest hits, Big Iron, not perform that song? Go figure.

Why are some shows free, like in the Sun Bowl, and others charge? I know this one was free but many in the Sun Dial are not. Just curious.

So here's how it works: The RCSC allocates about $50,000 per year for free shows. There are two season's of outdoor shows at the Sun Bowl (fall and winter) and those shows are free. They also run a couple of indoor concerts (June and July) at the Sun Dial auditorium; those also fall into the free budgeted shows.

The second series of shows the RCSC runs are the ticketed performances at the Sun Dial auditorium on Weds nights. They start in Jan/Feb and run for a number of weeks (10 or so). Tickets for those shows go on sale in Nov (I think) and you can buy season tickets for all of them or individual show tickets starting in Dec (if memory serves me). Those shows and the ticket sales cover the costs and may even make a few dollars for the RCSC. It works out well as residents looking for quality entertainment without having to leave the community have been quite pleased with what Theresa and her crew have been bringing to them.
