OMG...i'm becoming one of them.

I could only smile as i sat in my comfy lawn chair last night at the Rod Stewart tribute show. For years now i have marveled at Sun City residents who line up well in advance of almost any free show/event in hopes of getting the best seat in the house. My tendency is to get there shortly before anything begins.

There was a huge crowd the week before and when we arrived a half hour before kick-off, it was clear an earlier arrival made good sense. So last night we were there an hour before; damn, too late. We secured a spot along the the grass on the side of the stage, but the sound is nowhere near as good as in the bowl itself.

Sitting there, it dawned on me, i had finally become a true Sun Citian...way early and doing nothing but people watching. Anyway, exceptional crowd, the show was good but i struggled with the entertainer touting the fact he was in Phoenix. Duh, no dummy, you were in Sun City. Phoenix is further east and a tad bigger.

I know, i'm picking fly stuff, but if you are going to perform in front of near on 8000 people, at least get it right as to where you are performing. And as long as i am moaning, how about the RCSC investing in a better sound system for the Sun Bowl?

Haha. Next they will being camping overnight to get the best seats like we used to do. The sound system could use an upgrade. I could not hear the music very well at the one concert I attended. I thought maybe they keep the volume low so as not to bother surrounding houses. Is it that or it's the system?

In my humble opinion, they need a new sound system.

You've also become "one of them" if you eat lunch at 11:00 or 1:00 to avoid the crowds, eat dinner/supper at 4:30 for the same reason, wait until you reach the checker with all your purchases to find your discount card, debit card, coupons or dig around for exact change, don't look directly at oncoming drivers so you can pull out in front of them without guilt and of course my favorite is the total disregard for
    the fact
that signals/blinkers are installed in vehicles for an important reason.

Oh....and complaining about all these things also make me "one of them"! :victorious:

I live almost a mile exactly (as the crow flies) from the SB and I can open my front door during some concerts and hear the show -- others nary a peep. Do some shows use their own sound equip, other the RCSC's?

I imagine it's as most performers do. The musicians use their own amps and they are miked through the PA system of the SB. Some musicians may have louder amp (that go to 11) and/or some just crank them up louder. But the end usually depends on the PA system adjustment. I doubt any are bringing a large Marshal stack. :bull_head:

I always like seeing them too. The sound doesn't bother me...it's better than helicopters IMHO.

I struggle when someone says they "love" the jet noise. Hardly the volume that inspires love.

It’s more the association than the sound itself. I don’t associate it war, although I realize that’s what it is for, I associate it with beautiful planes. I like planes.*

I like planes too...preferably stealth bombers.

And i really like those by-planes and the hot air balloons drifting over Sun City are always way cool.
